Llandudno 23 Rhuthun 3

In a hard fought match at Llandudno the home side managed to contain Rhuthun’s attack effectively for much of the match and came away winners 23-3.  The visitors started strongly with two charge downs of attempted clearances in Llandudno’s 22 within the first 5 minutes but were unable to convert early pressure into points.  After 20 minutes play Dudno were beginning to make forays into Rhuthun’s half and the first points of the game were scored by flanker Bob Davies with his try converted by fly half Arthur Lennon.  Within 5 minutes the Blues had points on the board with a penalty goal from full back Nathan Jones and then Lennon kicked a penalty for Llandudno widening the gap again.  Towards the end of the 1st half Rhuthun were playing some of their best rugby of the match but were unable to get past a Llandudno defence who were quick in the breakdown and rucking well and the half closed with the home side 10-3 ahead.  After the break Llandudno tested the Blues defence and after 5 minutes went further ahead with a drop goal and 2nd penalty goal from Lennon.  Again the Blues tried to get some points on the board but the home side’s defence held and the play moved up field into Rhuthun’s half.  Wing Oscar Lennon jigged past a couple of Blues defenders for a try and Arthur Lennon converted.  With 20 minutes or so to go play oscillated from end to end with defences in the ascendancy and as the game progressed became more disjointed with both sides conceding unnecessary penalties.  Finally the whistle blew with no further score at 23-3 to Llandudno.
