Pwllheli 2nds 10 Ruthin 2nds 31
On a blustery yet hot day in the bowels of the Lleyn Peninsula, Ruthin arrived with a forward laiden squad and missing their captain Joe Mault.
Pwllheli struck first with a try punishing Ruthin inability to convert pressure into points. After some stern words from Huw “WhatsApp” Parry, Ruthin hit back, it was Gruff Jones who was able to touch down after a strong run from number 8 Tudur Parry.
Pwllheli duly responded with a try of their own after some good yards from their impressive young centre only for Arran ‘Abbey’ Davies to reply immediately for the blues which was converted by Jaime ‘Chips’ Jones to make it 12-10 half time.
After wise council from Pedr Jones there was a call to arms for Dwayne Speakman, who came on, scored a try and went off injured in his 3 minute cameo. Ruthin scored a further two tries, the pick of these was a well worked kick return from Captain Huw Parry resulting in a beautiful debut try by youth team member Dan Nash.
The match ended with Pwllheli battling hard to the very end and after some horrific “clearing their lines “ kicks from Steffan Parry and Dan Nash the final whistle went leaving Pwllheli feeling unlucky not to score in the second.
The match ended with a bonus point 31-10 victory to Ruthin propelling them to the top of the table. It’s Mold 2nds next for the men in Blue at home at Cae Ddol next Saturday!
