North Wales Youth Cup Final Rhuthun 18 Nant Conwy 25

In a fast moving and exciting Youth Cup Final at Colwyn Bay RFC on Sunday Nant Conwy narrowly beat Ruthin 25-18.  Ruthin were first with points on the board with a pushover try after 2 minutes.  Nant clawed back 3 points with a penalty goal but the Blues widened the gap with a well worked try by Bryn Edwards converted by Nathan Jones putting them 12-3 ahead after 10 minutes.  After 15 minutes play a Ruthin player was sin-binned and Nant bagged 3 points from the resultant penalty goal and then took advantage of the extra man to go ahead 13-12 with a converted try.  Nathan Jones slotted over a penalty goal for Ruthin just before half time and at the break the Blues were ahead 15-13.  In the second half all the points were scored from penalty goals – one each for the teams in the 1st 10 minutes and then a second yellow card put the Blues under pressure and 3 Nant penalty goals followed.  Towards the end the Blues mounted a strong attack on the Nant line and despite getting over the try line the ball was judged to have been held up and the game ended with Nant Conwy winners.  Both teams should be congratulated on the high standard of rugby played.  Ruthin youth play their last league game of the season at home to Denbigh on Friday 5th May KO 7pm.
