The newly formed Ruthin Girls team played their first ever match on Sunday in front of a large crowd at Cae Ddol. The girls have been training hard for the past few months in preparation for their first game and their eagerness showed from the off with plenty of big tackles being made. It was the more experienced Dolgellau girls who took the lead 7-0 but Ruthin fought their way back into the game and their first ever try was scored by Awel Roberts to make it 7-5. As the first half wore on Dolgellau's better organisation showed and they moved out to a 19-5 half time lead. Ruthin were not beaten though and came out fighting in the second half. Outside half Ela Rowlands cut the defecit to 19-10 with a solo effort. With 10 minutes to go it was all Ruthin and they scored again through a mazy run and great pace from Mali Beech. With the score at 19-15 it looked like Ruthin were going to snatch victory but credit to Dolgellau they held out and claimed a well deserved victory. If any other girls (ages 13-17) are interested in playing Rugby, training is every Tuesday at Ruthin Rugby Club 17:30-19:00
