Rhuthun 45 Bethesda 6

Playing their first game at home since January and their last of the season Rhuthun overcame a spirited Bethesda side to win comfortably 45-6.  The game was robust and fast moving throughout and the Blues were first with points on the board with a try by No 8 Tudur Parry converted by full back Nathan Jones after 15 minutes.  The visitors responded and within a further five minutes were awarded a kickable penalty which Gethin Long slotted over.  Rhuthun widened the gap again after centre Mike Jones broke through the Pesda defence and after Rhuthun were awarded a penalty 5 metres out they opted for a scrum and drove forward with flanker Matt Roberts scoring and Nathan converting.  Bethesda launched an effective pick and run attack in the home side’s 22 and only good defence by Rhuthun limited the damage to a penalty kick which Long again kicked over the bar.  The visitors continued to pressure Rhuthun  and spent most of the next 10 minutes in Rhuthun’s half but despite some good phase play were contained by the Blues effective defence.  After clearing their lines Mike Jones again pierced the visitors’ defence and ran from almost the half way line for a great solo try converted by Nathan.  Then a couple of minutes later Mike Jones broke through again and combined with fellow centre Emyr Gwynedd to release scrum half Cai Edwards for the bonus point try and the half closed with Rhuthun 26-6 ahead.  The second half was played at the same pace  with both sides defending well but it was 20 minutes in before the next score –  replacement wing Josh Wilson made ground upfield before releasing to replacement No 8 Jordan Jones to go over the whitewash with Nathan converting.  Again Bethesda tried to reduce the arrears but the Blues defence held and then with 5 minutes to go Wilson scored his 100th try for the club, converted by Nathan and then on full time made ground and offloaded to Cai Edwards to go over the line for his second try and the final score.
