Ruthin bounced back to winning ways against Mold in this tough encounter. The Blues got off to a flying start in the first few minutes with centre Kyle Davies running from near half way to score with fly half Callum Bennet converting. Shortly afterwards the ball was passed out from a Ruthin scrum to wing Josh Wilson who flew over the whitewash putting the Blues 12-0 ahead. Mold tried to get themselves in a position to reduce the arrears but it was the home side that went further ahead after 20 minutes of play with a fine try by Chris Davies again converted by Bennett. The visitors continued to try to work themselves into the game and after a lineout 5yards out from the Ruthin try line nipped over for a try. The Blues responded but could not break through Mold’s defence and eventually conceded a penalty which put them back in their own half. Defending against Mold’s driving mauls the Blues conceded another penalty and lost a player with a yellow card and Mold took advantage and scored again. Just before half time Ruthin went down to 13 men with another yellow and they went in for the break at 19-10 ahead. Immediately after the break a Mold prop was red carded but still with a one man advantage Mold kept up the pressure and scored a converted try putting them within 2 points of the Blues. Almost immediately, after good phase play by Cai Davies and Kyle Davies, Wilson sped over for Ruthin’s bonus point try converted by Bennett. Back to full strength the last 15 minutes belonged to Ruthin and they added a further 6 points with a penalty goal and drop goal from the boot of Bennett and the whistle blew for full time with the Blues winning 32-17.
