Ruthin got back to winning for the first time this season in a comprehensive defeat of Colwyn Bay in this 1st Round Swalec Plate match at Cae Ddol. The game was played with uncontested scrums as the visitors were unable to field a full front row. Ruthin showed their intent from the start with the first points coming from a try by flanker Ben Taylor. Within 5 minutes Taylor was instrumental in putting No 8 Jordan Jones through for a try converted by winger Nathan Jones. The Blues kept the Bay pinned in their own half and after 30 minutes of play prop Jason Humphreys pushed over the line with Jones converting. Almost immediately the visitors responded and after a ball chase over the home side’s touchline Lloyd Jones touched down and Henry Morris converted. The Blues continued to pressure and in the last 5 minutes of the first half 2nd row Arwyn Davies and wing Nathan Jones scored a try apiece with Jones converting both putting the score at 33-7 to Ruthin at the break. In this free –flowing game the tries kept coming. First from Blues captain Kyle Davies, converted by Jones then the Bay’s Harry Park got one back converted by Morris and again the Blues re-established the difference with replacement Joe Mault going over and Jones converting. The visitors were still not giving up however and Dan Parry got their third again converted by Morris. In the last 15 minutes Ruthin pulled away with a further three tries, first scrum half Jamie Jones and then Mault and Nathan Jones getting their second each with Jones converting 2 of the three. The final score was 66-21 to Ruthin who having broken their run of defeats will be hoping to continue this form into their league matches.
