In a hard fought game at Caernarfon Rhuthun came away with a bonus point win. Rhuthun were playing uphill in the 1st half and the home side missed the opportunity to score with a penalty goal attempt in the 1st minute. So the Blues were first with points on the board with a try by wing Josh Wilson converted by full back Dyfan Humphreys after 7 minutes. Within the next 5 minutes Caernarfon missed a second attempt at a penalty goal and then after driving from a lineout in Rhuthun’s 22 passed the ball out to the wing and Jack McGuffie went over the whitewash. The Blues returned to the attack and were awarded a penalty kick on the home side’s 22 which Dyfan slotted over. With the score 10-5 to Rhuthun the visitors had to defend hard against a concerted home side attack for much of the rest of the half. Despite going down to 14 men the Blues contained the Cofis attack limiting the damage to conceding a penalty goal just before half time. With the score 10-8 at half time and now playing downhill Rhuthun started strongly when fly half Iestyn Davies ran through the Caernarfon defence for a fine try converted by Dyfan. Rhuthun then kept up the pressure and after the home side defence fragmented Wilson was able to burst through for his second try. Caernarfon tried to reduce the arrears but the Blues effective defence largely kept them out of the Rhuthun 22 and in the last 5 minutes Rhuthun returned to the attack. From a Rhuthun lineout on half way the ball was fed to Wilson who ran down the touchline to score his hat trick and the team’s bonus point try and after the restart the ball was kicked into touch for full time.
