Ruthin and Bethesda battled out their last game of the season on a beautiful day at Bethesda on Saturday. Ruthin depleted by injuries to players in the last few games fielded a number of players making their debut for the 1st team including the Lloyd Jones brothers on permit from Llangollen and ex- youth Cameron Miller with the bench bolstered by veteran Sam Higgitt. The only score in the first half was a penalty goal by Bethesda’s full back Gethin Long after 7 minutes. Defences were in the ascendancy and for Ruthin the game followed the pattern of the last few games with good possession and plenty of time in the opposition 22 but an inability to convert the pressure into points. Bethesda’s backs however always looked dangerous but were contained by the Blues defence in the first half. The home side started the second half with some urgency and were moving the ball about well. After a few minutes Long ran through the visitors defence for a try which he converted. Ruthin went back on the attack and Pesda had to withstand concerted pressure for some while before the ball was cleared and the Blues had nothing for their effort. Back in their own half it was Ruthin’s turn to defend but they went further behind with a drop goal from fly half Carwyn Williams. Again the Blues went on the attack and after some good phase play full back Josh Wilson got 5 points on the board with an unconverted try. The reduced margin was not to last however as Long again forced his way through the Blues defence for an unconverted try shortly before the 80 minutes were up and the game finished with Bethesda winning 18-5.
