Ruthin struggled to gain control of this game at Mold on Saturday. After the first few minutes when both sides tested each other out Mold gradually began to pin the Blues in their own half. Although Ruthin organised their defence well they struggled to take advantage of their own lineouts and were repeatedly driven back into their own 22. After 20 minutes Mold’s Jack Martin kicked a penalty goal putting them 3 points ahead and this was quickly followed by a nice move where the ball was passed out to the wing and Mark Padgett scored. Mold continued their pressure and Martin bagged another 3 points to make the score 11-0 to Mold at half time. Mold started where they left off in the second half and within 5 minutes Luke Jones went over the whitewash with Martin converting. The Blues at last got some points on the board when wing Josh Wilson ran from his own 22 to score but his solo effort was immediately countered by Mold with a try by Rowan Whalley. In the last 20 minutes Mold were chasing a bonus point try and Ruthin did well not to concede further points and the game was more evenly matched. But by now both defences were in ascendancy and the game played out with no further score at 23-5 to Mold.
