With a number of changes from last week’s squad Ruthin continued to struggle with away league form, in contrast to their cup away form, in this Division One North tie at Llandudno. Tudno started strongly and were 3 points up after a few minutes with a penalty goal. The Blues responded with a nicely worked try with the ball passed from one side of the field to the other with wing Josh Wilson finishing off. Ruthin had to defend well against the home side’s counter attack but after 20 minutes the pressure paid off with a converted try putting Tudno 10-5 up. The home side had to withstand 10 minutes of Blues pressure but Ruthin were unable to capitalise on their possession and eventually Tudno cleared their lines and scored from virtually their own 22 without Ruthin putting up much opposition. Both sides unsuccessfully tried to get more points on the board and at half time the score was 15-5 to Llandudno with a feeling that the game could still go either way. Straight after half time however Llandudno sealed their win with two similar tries in 3 minutes with Llandudno’s backs running through the Ruthin defence on the wing. For the remaining 35 minutes of the game the Blues barely had any possession and had to defend well to prevent any further home team score. Any Ruthin attacks came to nothing and despite a late surge Tudno’s defence held and the game ended with Llandudno winning 27-5.
